Tonight will be my first night with them. I work from 4 to midnight. I met the little boy today and he is extremely shy. I'm needing some tips on how to entertain the kids and keep them occupied. I have babysat hundreds of times, but the children have always been toddlers and infants. I have no idea what to do with a 9 year old. Please help. Thanks.

Talk to the 9 year old about her friends and school. Ask what her favorite shows on TV are. This is the best way to open up, then you can both feel more comfortable and you can both think of things to do... play games, watch movies, or maybe color!! Find a craft. They'll both love it no matter how simple it is. Also fun to let them make their own pizza. Broil a flour tortilla just a minute then let them spread on pizza sauce and toppings then put back in the broiler until cheese is melted and crust is crusty. It's very easy and good.
Nine year old girls are easy - offer to plait her hair and let her play with yours - put make up on her (light stuff, obviously) and paint her nails. She'll love you forever.
